Layered Audit Workshops

Overview

The Layered Audit program consists of two separate workshops, delivered one week apart:

Photograph of giant pie graphs.We fully customize these sessions to meet the unique needs of your organization and develop the material using the layered audit methodology guideline CQI-8 issued by the AIAG as well as ranking concepts from the PFMEA manual.

Day 1: Layered Audit Planning Workshop

At this first workshop session, join a multifunctional group to create the layered audit structure and criteria for your organization.

We will focus on the creation of process-based checklists, integrating key quality, environmental and health & safety requirements for your organization's manufacturing processes.

Photograph of giant pie graphs.We will also discuss a system for responding presenting and responding to results and how results can be used to drive improvement and avoid risk.

Objectives

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Understand the value and role of layered audits.
  • Follow the steps for developing process audits.
  • Determine areas of potential risk.
  • Determine frequencies and levels of audits.
  • Create reaction plans.
  • Report results.

Day 2: Layered Auditor Workshop

This second workshop session is specifically for your auditors. We will focus on the value of the layered audit process as well as the role and responsibilities of the auditors.

We will review the checklists and then work in pairs to conduct an audit. Then, we will present and discuss the results.

Objectives

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Understand what a layered audit is.
  • Audit to a checklist.
  • Practice effective communication skills.
  • Record and report results.
  • Take action to make improvements and avoid risk in your organization.

Prerequisites:

None. A general working knowledge of your organization's specific requirements is beneficial.


Duration:

2 days


Schedule:

One day per week for two consecutive weeks.


Your instructor:

Carolyn Macdonald is an IATF certified ISO/TS 16949:2002 Quality System Auditor, RAB Certified Quality System Lead Auditor, and an ISO14001:2004 Trained Lead Auditor, with experience conducting registration audits as well as implementing systems.
